The sporting fishing is the main tourist attraction of Porto Rolim

Porto Rolim/RO - The sporting fishing is not the only attraction of the Porto Rolim de Moura of Guaporé, in the area of Alta Floresta do Oeste. The place, that starting from the last two years, became one of the more sought by the tourists in the State, enchants so much for its natural beauties, as for the people’s hospitality. They are a simple people, spontaneous and always ready to stop what they are doing to assist well the ones who come from outside.

Porto Rolim has about 600 inhabitants. In the place there is a Catholic church, two evangelical, a school, a health center, a gym of sports, a soccer field and small trades. The leisure options are the fishing, the ship sails by the rivers Mequéns and Guaporé and the balls that happen at the weekends.

In Porto Rolim the tourist comes across scenery full of native forests, calm waters, birds and fish of several species. The animals can be seen in the margins of the river, usually escaping from the onlookers/* proximity. The Hindu priests rose is the most sociable. In some moments they demonstrate to be exhibiting themselves for the visitors.

In land, the main option is to know the history and the way of the residents/* life that were born at the small place. Ladislau Gomes, 78 years, is one of the most sought by the ones who come from outside, when the subject is to know Porto Rolim/*s appearance and its people/*s history. He counts that unlike many other people that were born at the place, he preferred to be and to await the progress. "I always believed in the arrival of the development, after all, here is also Brazil", he said.

Another good histories teller is Gervazio Gonçalves, 70 years old. He has already been pricked by a snake and he had to face ounces and alligators. Questioned if he was the man that had escaped from an alligator, he answers: "No, the alligator that escaped from me". Jokes aside, Gervazio counts that the attack of an alligator, happened during a fishery, it was the most dangerous situation that he has already faced. The animal didn’t manage to kill him, only because when biting his leg, it also bit a tree that was by his side and it ended up not getting to close the mouth. “It was a day that I saw the death in the view", remembers him, while showing the scars left by the bug in his right leg.

The ones that arrived later

The entrepreneur Rone Edson da Silva is already part of the new residents/* group. He left the city of Campinas (SP) to live in Porto Rolim. In the first two times he came to the place to fish, in some friends/* company. In the third time he convinced his wife to follow him for a season of six months, but the period was extend and the couple ended up deciding to fasten residence in the small place. “I always liked to fish and when I arrived here I fell in love with the people and the place”, he said.

Cristina, Rone’s wife, also adapted well to the place. “He called me to stay six months here and that season has already lasts two years", she affirmed. Satisfied with the option that made, she told that the largest fish that she has already fished at the place was a Pirarara, of 28 kilos.

Claudionor José Dias, well-known in the place by “Fumaça”, arrived five years ago and for two years, he administers the parking that gives access to the river, in Porto Rolim/*s arrival. Charging 10 real the daily rate, he and an employee take care of the tourists/* vehicles day and night. Fumaça also works in the visitor/*s orientation related to the tourist options in the area. "We have indication so much for the ones who wants to stay in the open places, as for the ones that prefer more reserved spaces ", he explains.


Union of forces

In Porto Rolim the class entities really unite forces. The Environmental military police works with the Clerkship of Environmental Development (Sedam) and with the Community Ecological Association of Conservatives of Guaporé River and its Tributaries (Ecomeg), created recently by local residents. The objective of the work together is to defend the environmental preservation and to motivate the tourism. "We work with inspection and environmental education", explained the president of Ecomeg, Delmácio Ferreira Alvez.

The cable Jairo Feitosa, commandant of the local grouping, explained that the inspections are made by water and by land and that despite the great extension of the area, there are not great problems. According to him, the work is more of orientation than of repression. “Most of the tourists have already known how it should be proceeding at a place like Porto Rolim", he said.

Alex Maroni, 18 years old, is also part of the group of defense of Porto Rolim. He arrived there four years ago and he doesn/*t intend to leave the place, where he works as tourist guide and pilot. While he is working, according to him, his concern concentrates on the defense of the nature and in the visitor/*s safety. “I would like them not to drink too much, so that they wouldn’t remove the vests and nor leave garbage here", he recommends.

Offered structure

In Porto Rolim, there is available for the tourists, four hotels of small load, with daily rates that vary from 15 to 50 real, including the breakfast. The other meals are served separated and just when they are requested. The cost of the lunch is about 10 real, per person. For larger safety, the reservations should be made in advance.

The safest option for the visitor is to maintain contact with Ecomeg, for the telephone 69 3646 3019. The association takes care of everything for the tourist, providing ship and pilot besides. The cost is of 140 real the daily rate of the ship, with motor and pilot.

Access

Porto Rolim is located 700 kilometers from Porto Velho. The access in terrestrial road, starting from Porto Velho follows the BR 364. After President Médici it should be entered in RO 479, go along 500 kilometers until Rolim of Moura, and goes on in R0 383 until the small town of Alto Alegre, approximately 65 kilometers and then go on another 130 in RO 490, until Rio Mequéns/*s margins, where it is located the Parking of Fumaça.

In waterway, the tourist should precede starting from Pimenteiras do Oeste, by the river Guaporé and its arm that flows into the river Mequéns, opposite Rolim de Moura do Guaporé, in a distance of approximately 250 kilometers. In regional ships of tourism that space is traveled in 30 hours. In a motorboat with motor of 90 hp, that time is reduced for five hours. In a speedboat with motor of 15 hp, they are necessary nine hours. Leaving Costa Marques, they are approximately 330 kilometers navigating by Guaporé River.
